    67 SB C-60 Alternator brace

This message is a question for Joe L. Joe I have the measurements for the alt. bracket(3854028, 12 and 1/16th long, and a slot of 2 and 7/32 long.)that you so kindly shared with me. Do you have any idea what the angle between the two planes are? I have not found anyone that has an original that would measure one for me. Several say, they are the same as non A/C, but that can not be as the A/C belt is longer.Thank you dale

    Hi Dale:

I can't comment on whether the alternator bracket is the same for A/C and non-A/C cars, but your statement that they can't be the same because the belt is longer is not necessarily correct. If the water pump pulley and/or crankshaft pulley are larger diameter on an A/C car, the belt would need to be longer to have the adjustment bolt come out in the same place on the same alternator bracket. That's what makes this confusing, since there are so many variables. I believe some of the pulleys were different on A/C cars.

      Checking the '67 AIM...

the base SB alternator brace is called out at PN 3884640. Turning to the C60 option section, the equivalent SB alternator brace used for A/C equipped cars is PN 3854028. So, they weren't the same.

But, I don't have a dimensional reference to tell you how to visually ID the difference...

I don't have the angularity specs for the 3854028 brace. However, from recollection, I think that it's different from the non-C-60. As I recall, the 3854028 brace has a compound curvature with a "dog leg". This is the same brace as used for many earlier small block applications. I thought that it was reproduced, but I'm not sure if it ever was or, if it was, if it still is.

Re: 67 SB C-60 Alternator brace

Joe, I have bought 4 and returned 2 alternator braces. I still do not have one that matches the dimentions of the 3854028. I have been watching Ebay and have not seen anything that matches. I have the overall length and slot length that you got me. If I knew the dog leg it would be easy to match. So far no one has come up with a 3854028 to show me. Thank you all for your help. Dale

Dale - If you'll contact me via email, I'll try to help you however possible with dimensions, angles, etc. I have a 1967 base engine A/C car that, as far as I know, has the original alternator and other braces.

            Regards, Kent Keech

P.S. - provide me with your email address if you want me to send pictures.
