    1957 Windshield- upper support

    HELP!
Can anyone tell me how I can place the black steel channel inside the stainless steel polished tube. One side is completely OFF all the way from end to end.

The stainless has been polished to perfection...........I don't want to make any mistakes or scrath/dent the tube.

See attached photographs for a better explanation of my dilemma-

    Thank you in advance,
    Mike

    Mike--
The inside steel channel only has one side of the stainless channel snap over it--the other side does not snap over--space remains between the edge of the inner channel and the outer stainless. I don't remember offhand which edge of the channel snaps over--I believe, by memory, here at the office, that it is the rear--but it will become very apparent as you try to fit the rubber windshield-surround weatherstrip. Good luck!

        Mike,

Mark the center of the windshield both on top and bottom. Then mark the center of the bottom and top windshield moldings. This will give your references to center them all together. Also, you will want to check the weatherstripping to make sure it's centered on the glass. Start with the bottom trim, then the top trim the ends. If you had the ends rechromed you might have to rework the area where the center stainless channel slips into - at least I did, with a die grinder to make sure they slip together. Suggest a test fit before you start reassembling. Putting the ends on was a 2 person job and requires some patience. Also, I had to use a Bessey clamp to help roll the top stainless around over the end windshield post.

        Hope this helps.

Mike, additionally, the ST12 has info on how to replace the trim. If you don't have a copy, let me know and will scan the page for you. Gary....
