    1966 Protecto Plate - Help

I have recently acquired a 66 BB coupe and it has the original protecto plate and booklet. The car was delivered on 11-20-65 and produced around October. The protecto plate does not list any options and the car has power windows. Having never owned a car with this much documentation - I am wondering what an early protecto plate should have listed. Mine has Trim/Paint. VIN, Engine #, Trans #, Axle # and original owner.

That is all that is on a POP. They were created to identify the original componenets for warrentee purposes, and did not try to identify every item on the car.

Your trim tag may have an ECL code that gives some further clues as to what the car came with. Post that code here and someone can surely tell you what it means.

Re: 1966 Protecto Plate - Help

Your copy of the AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) shows what information went where on the POP. As already stated, the POP doesn't document the car's complete factory configuration, only critical components...

        A 1970 would list it

I don't know about a 66, but according to the 1970 assembly manual the POP listed power steering, power brakes,AC, and power windows.

          Replacement POP?

There's also the issue of a replacement POP issued to a second owner. The replacement plates I've seen had no dymo tape on it, and had the second owner's name embossed into the plate. They also carried much less information about the car than an original POP, and thus may have omitted options.

Mine is original with owner's name in the tape and the book appears to original and hand signed by J luby of Luby Chevrolet of Denver.

              Re: Replacement POP?

UPC 0, sheet B3 in your Assembly Manual shows all the information that was coded on the P-O-P and where on the plate it was to be imprinted.

This is the only information on a 67 POP. This is my original imprint.
