I've noticed that after several years, the battery in my '62 FI Vette shows a very visible bulge especially at the narrow sides. This has occurred with almost every battery I've had within the past 30 yrs (don't remember the earyly years).I typically use a heavy duty aftermarket battery and never have had a problem with the cranking strength (and I still have the 11.25:1 pistons and heads. Can anyone venture a guess as to WHY ? This car spends a lot of time sitting in the garage (is driven maybe 100 miles a year). It sits sometimes with a battery tender and often without; sometimes with the battery connected and sometimes not.

Re: C1 Battery Question
Sounds to me like it's over charging. Have your system output checked as well as the battery tender your using. Rich # 2276- Top

Re: C1 Battery Question
John,
I've had the same issue with my 59 for 20+ years. Later type oem batteries all the time. I do not have a heat shield. I'd say that's why on my car. Do you have the heatshield? Maybe even with the shield the heat is too much for the thin plastic in today's batteries.

Re: C1 Battery Question
John......I think we both need the heat shield to solve our problem.
I know I always needed a shield, but the tray is not original on my car so I can't use the correct shield. The tray won't accomodate it.
