late C3 shock color dispute

The original shocks on my 1977 L-82 are blue gray. The car was built early in the model year : Sept 1976. I know the shocks are original, part numbers are right, and the julian dates are right on. The problem is that the TIM&JG says all 1977 shocks are flat black. What should I do? Paint them the wrong color to get full points or argue a losing battle with the judges? Thoughts please....

I have a set of shocks off of a '77 and they are blue gray as well. The paint appears to be original.

Keep them original. Let the judges decide if they think the color is wrong as starting out telling judges what is wrong with the shocks is not a good idea as that is their job. If they take a deduction when going over the sheets then let them know that they are judging an early 77 and see if they will judge outside the manual. You still can talk to the team leader see what he thinks as the 75-77 manual is only as good as the cars and information used to make it and if you paint them black the manual has no chance to change. I base my ideas on you knowing they are original dated shocks and on a very early car.
