    57 Radio Delet

Does anyone know where I can buy the black cardboard cover that fits behind the speaker grille(with a "W" within a circle),filling the area used for the speaker, used in a 57 radio delet Corvette?
    Thanks

    Marc -

As far as I know, nobody reproduces that cover; sounds like a make-at-home item.

        Marc,

Try Roger Brower, Tigard, OR. Sorry, that's all the info I can find on him now, but I purchased this item from him several years ago, and I believe I see him advertise in the Driveline occasionally. Good luck.

joe: the cirlced"M" or "W" is not discernable in your picture. wires running under the cardboard don't appear to be originals. how about a better picture. regards, mike

Mike..this is the speaker block off plate in the no radio, no heater 33,000 mile Nassau/Daytona car. No apparant modifications or tool marks to see...regarding the speaker block off. This car sat in one garage for 46 years.

The car was fitted with an electric Sun Tach by Chevrolet Engineering with the electric control box mounted on the heater block off plate on the engine side, and later after the car was retired from racing and sold..the new owner installed a heater ( lived in Chicago )..so there may be some wires that do not look normal. The owner also later added an aftermarket radio with speaker in the receiver..so no separate speaker was needed...and no alteration to the speaker block off plate.

If you have another photo of an untouched 57 speaker block off plate in place please post it. Always learning.

The car will be at this years Bloomington Special collection..which will be a very special event for the celebration of the 57. Please stop by and you can study the speaker block off plate for yourself...if you can get under the dash!

              This is car #775 built Nov.12th 1956

I am also bringing the unrestored Eb Rose / Carroll Shelby 57 Black Widow Fuel Injected engine and prototype T-10 4spd..for display. Should be fun for people to study. The only unrestored complete Corvette EK fuelie engine that I know of...just removed after 50 years from the George Moore 54..after it was transplanted into that car in late 1957.

              Thanks,

              Joe

                Mike

I am told that the circled mark you refer to is stamped on the side of the speaker delete plate that faces the cars interior..so it is not visible if you are looking for it under the dash.

Since I have no reason to disturb mine..I will take that explanation for now.
