    NOS "Corvette" wheels

Several of the DB members are looking for 15X5-1/2 wheels lately for C1's and C2's. Go on ebay item # 280114644439 and see what they are NOT supposed to look like.

Harry, I didn't see you bidding on these. I just noticed the guy selling them is 10 miles from my house so I better keep quiet. Probably a member of our chapter. Meanwhile I have located nice supply of "NOS" plain steel flat washers for the 63 to 65 gas filter brackets. They are about as NOS as the wheels though. But they are correct. Thanks for showing me up by putting fancy link on. You know I am not smart enough to do that. I figured you would be in NJ this weekend. John

To his credit, the listing does show the part number as the "8080" wheels, and he did post the question/answer that tells everyone these are not the correct wheels.

Hi John, Had to pass on NJ, spring has sprung in NH and much to do here. Besides it would have been 600 miles round trip and my 63 is still in the garage, need to replace the waterpump.

In a past life I was a programmer, so that IT junk comes easy.

See ya in Boston if your there.

I have a set like this on my 63 and I'm going to put radial tires on them to drive. To be honest, I can't see a difference between these and original 65/66 wheels except the rim is rivited instead of welded.

What is wrong with those wheels aside from the silly price?

                Paul,

The only thing wrong is the price. I think others were just stating that these wheels while NOS are not like assembly line wheels for 63 thru 1966.

15 x 5 1/2 wheels are rare and have unique features. Originals command extraordinary prices. Individual wheels have recently sold for $3500. As crazy as that price may seem..these cars we play with are becoming unusually valuable..particularly..the well known 5 star rated rare models and their related parts.

If you research the archives you will find out how these wheels are unique. Recent posts and pictures show the difference from the later 8080 wheels...that are much more plentiful.

Premium cars and premium parts will bring a premium return.

                    8080 wheels prices

What do 8080 wheels go for these days as a discontinued item?

Are they even desirable enough to command the prices this ebay sale is headed toward sans tires?

They sure don't take to having a 63 wheel covers mounted on them if they were intended as a replacement for 63 and up. You could do it, but you have to really want to mount that critter. Forget pulling a tire, the thought of removing a 63 wheelcover from an 8080 rim makes me sweat.

"Best of Restorer" from way back when had an article on using the 8080 wheels on the 62 and below vettes. Got 4 new wheels for my 61 and used dog dish caps. Price was 50$ each with a chevy discount. Yikes!
