    C1 Help Identifying Original Conv W/S ?

I was going through my piles of stuff from my 59 resto begun 20 years ago and found these. They're my old soft top weatherstrips, with cloth backing and molded in retainers and threaded studs. A stud on 2 of them is 1/4-20 with chrome nuts. Found part#'s on back-3716300R, 3710302R on a few. All I've ever seen in documentation is the separate rubber & retainers in the 59,62 aims I have. When were these used? PO back in 1970 told me he bought the soft top and had it installed on the car then.

    Thanks,
    Rich
(why did I save all this stuff??)

    Rich-----

GM #3716300 is a right side center roof rail weatherstrip applicable to 1956-59 Corvettes. It was discontinued without supercession in 1960.

I can find no part number of GM #3710302.

      Thanks Joe,

Typo....it was 3716302R, probably right side front. So they would be correct for my 59. Are they available anywhere? I used the later replacements with the separate retainers and t-nuts and screws, so I guess technically they're wrong, right? Either way you solved my mystery. Thanks.

        Rich -

There's an ad on page 32 of the May-June "Driveline" for an outfit that says they have reproduction cloth-covered convertible top weatherstrips - "just bolt on and you're done". www.vettediamonds.com, (847) 778-0031. Diamond "S" Corvette Weatherstripping.

          John,

Thanks for the information! I haven't had a chance to open my DL yet. I never realized the entire w/s was cloth wrapped. So what I have here is potentially a set of w/s's I can use for my car after I figure out where to get the cloth and the gluing and wrapping technique.

I am very glad I never threw them away 15 years ago when I replaced my top and bought new w/s(with the separate retainers).

          Thanks,
          Rich

The cloth is called "bowdrill cloth tape", and is available from Steele Rubber Products, (800) 544-8665.
