The Plastic Straps securing the wiring under the hood on my SWC are not a combination of black and white. They are all white. There are large T-Shaped ones that I see are available through all the suppliers, but I have no black ones as provided in the various kits. My largest number are a translucent white with no T. When I removed the harnesses, the straps were quite secure. I have owned the car more than 30 years and have not replaced the straps. Could these be original? I am reinstalling the harnesses and don't want to change anything that could be proper, yet the catalogs point to something wrong here.

Re: 63 Wiring Plastic Straps
Thanks John. Do you know if the white and black were interchanged during production? A friend with a very original SWC built a month after mine has black straps. Glad that your answer confirmed the originality of the white straps, don't like changing to something that I might always question. Do you have a number of how many of the T-Straps were installed?- Top

Re: 63 Wiring Plastic Straps
assume you mean the wiring harness at the firewall - and if so, there are FIVE straps that secure the wiring harness
BTW - do the straps feel like they are made of rubber? REAL DEAL ones are, and the after-market and NORS OEM are made of a plastic materialRick Aleshire

Re: 63 Wiring Plastic Straps
Rick, My 9900 car has the original off white plastic straps. When I judge for CC, etc. most all the 63's I see have those. If I personally saw the black ones I think I would ding them. There could be 3 to 5 of those. Check the asmbly manual for an illustration. Go for the off white which look really neat aged. Wait for the 63 guru's to answer as I am just learning. 63's are tough. So many opinions also. Like some guys think that all pinchwelds on the seat track are black. Ask your team leader when in doubt. Thanks, John- Top

Re: 63 Wiring Plastic Straps
I found four on my car of the large T Straps. Ten of the smaller white ones. They are plastic, but are still quite flexible. Seem to be made of the same material as the Harness Connector at the fuse block. Cleaned up very well. Thanks for your help.

Re: 63 Wiring Plastic Straps
John,
they are NOT plastic!!!!! - the originals are definitely made of rubber - the reproduction and NORS (note, I did not say NOS!!!!) are plastic - so, if you say yours are plastic, if and when I would judge your MECH, I would deduct for yours being plastic rather than rubberRick Aleshire

Re: 63 Wiring Plastic Straps
Pictures of original 1963 plastic strap still showing some sort of black out or undercoating. This one may have been on the gas tank overflow hose and that's why black undercoat. I think it is plastic but more like rubber than the repro. Any one have any extras? Starting to sound like our ex president.

Re: 63 Wiring Plastic Straps
Rick, Got you covered. My car has couple of yellow plastics and couple of yello rubbers. Used. Meanwhile Jorjorian says that they are PLASTIC not rubber. I realize we are still learning all this stuff but Ricky time to no difference between rubber and plastic. Truthfully now I don't have a clue what they are. Could be rubber or could be plastic. At this time of the day with a day I had............ Discuss it with RJ so one of you gets story straight. All I know is that little white car has the ORIGINAL John Bollard like em yellow looking straps. Bak to work. John
Meanwhile I wish you well on your next PV. Wait until June 08 and bring your car to the regional our chapter is having at Seven Springs. GOod place to pv if you have some low low gears. Lots of mountains.- Top

Re: 63 Wiring Plastic Straps
John,
all I know is that at Charlotte they dinged me for a plastic one - the other four are all rubber and original to my 1963 Z06
FYI - like your idea about kerosene - will have to try that one!
BTW - plan on driving to Severn Spring Regional next year as part of the Founder's requirementRick Aleshire

Re: 63 Wiring Plastic Straps
Rick, I will have to look around to see if I have one original for you. Glad you are coming to Seven Springs. More on this later. I guess I can't tell the difference between plastic and rubber as the straps on my 63 could be plastic.??? Originals anyhow.
Our Pittsburgh Chapter is short judges for our June 10th meet. Thanks, John- Top
