Need opinions on new battery for 62

I am in need of a new battery. The car is not Top Flight because it is all original, and I mean everything is original, including this old battery.

Question is, should I invest in one of the Restoration batteries for $235 so it looks original even though everyone knows it isn't, or just a new Interstate for a little less than $100?

Money isn't the real issue, but that would be $135 to spend on beer, etc.

Is your intent to show or drive, if drive, buy the interstate or similar current technology battery, if you intend to show even occasionally, a current delco replacement will likely last as lon as the interstate and produce more judging points at a price similar to the interstate.

I purchase a Delco battery (about $50) and put one of those cheapo battery tops ($25)on it. From a distance (it is rather hidden anyway) it looks almost original.

I have the Restoration Battery ones on my '65 HIPO Mustang and my friend's '69 Z28 - both of those the battery is a lot more visible and worth the money - in my opinion.

        Jack,
If the car is as original as I am understanding you to describe it (original battery, etc.)you should know that for judging, it would qualify to be judged in the 4 star/bowtie category. That is harder to achieve than a top flight award, because it is for cars that are unmolested (original belts, hoses, clamps, etc.) Not just CORRECT clamps, belts, hoses, etc., but ORIGINAL factory-installed pieces. If that's what you have, it's something to be driven very carefully and sparingly, because a car is only original once. If you have questions/thoughts about that, please email me, and I would be happy to converse with you by phone about your 62. (I've had 28 of them , so I like to pretend that I know something about them).

You still have the original battery for your car? The one that was installed at the factory?

          That's probably worth a fortune.

Jack, If you have the original case there are fellows out there that can rebuild you original battery. I am sure DB members can give you a name for that service. John

I really don't drive it much at all. 2000 miles in 16 years. Had lots of offers to purchase it from people looking for something to drive. I suggest they find a restored car, not one where all the parts are 45 years old.

I think I will go ahead and spring for an original looking battery, not so much for judging, but just for my own satisfaction whenever I look at the car.

Thanks for posting the pictures , that is a sweet 62. This past weekend I went to our monthly car show in town that we have at a hot dog stand. And a man brought in a 62, that he just picked up, it was all original white base motor with a power glide, it had the red interior and radio delete. The story is that a little old lady bought the car new and drove it until she was 92 years old, then her granddaughter got the car and then she sold it. It still has most if not all of it's original parts and paint on the car.

                      Very Very Nice Jack...

You can almost see/smell the patina dripping off that car.

Kinda the same as mine. The original owner purchased the car when he retired. Traded in a 1956 Thunderbird. He purchased it for his wife, hence the powerglide cause she couldn't drive a stick and the power windows so she wouldn't have to lean over and roll up the passenger window. They drove it very little, basically to the counrty club and back, then sold it to me in 1991 when he was 87 and she was 83. Couldn't drive without power steering. Bought themselves a new BMW.
Really nice people plus he saved everything for the car. I have the original invoice, original title, owners manual, etc.

Is this car white with a fawn interior or Almond Biege with a fawn interior?

                          Winshield appears tinted. Is it?

Alnond Beige with Fawn. Windshield is tinted. A dealer installed option prior to delivery.

                              Don't buy a restoration battery

I wouldn't put a restoration battery in it. If the car will be driven sparingly you will want a battery that you can have serviced/replaced locally when it dies and it will. When the restoration battery takes a dump your options are limited. Besides why would anyone want to spend 3+ times the money for a battery. Save your rubles.
