IAM AM NEW AT THE RESTORATION PROCESS AS FAR AS TECHNICAL INFORMATION. I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME HELP IN DETERMINING THE ACTUAL BUILD DATE OF MY CAR. I JUST JOINED AND DO HAVE SOME TECHNICAL BOOKS ON THE WAY. I DO HAVE THE SN# ACCESSABLE AND WHATEVER INFORMATION I CAN GIVE TO GET ME STARTED. WHAT INFORMATION DO I NEED TO SUPPLY OR CAN YOU POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WHERE I MAY FIGURE THIS OUT MYSELF.

Please turn off the caps on your computer, that is shouting. The build date is easy to find with a Birthday Book and the VIN. If you want to email me that number, I will look it up. Welcome to the organization. Don H.

You determine a car's build date by interpolating it from the VIN number. Factory production records exist citing end of month VIN numbers and from there you interpolate placing your VIN between end of prior month + end of current month production numbers.

Several utilities exist to help you do this, one is already mentioned, the Corvette Birthday book, and others are on-line birthday calculators like the one maintained by the NCRS Wisconsin chapter on their web site which you can access from a link at this web site.

Bottom line, some calculators are 'smarter' than others (comprehend non-work days of the month, official GM recognized holidays, Etc.), but ultimately all methods are educated guesses since they don't comprehend things like authorized over-time, swing shift operation and line speed-up/slow-down/stoppage episodes.
