    Power Supply

I need some advice....based on my last couple of experiences, my "Restoration" battery is very undependable. It starts just fine with a full charge when I take it off the trailer at shows, etc. But starting and stopping the engine during Op's checks, by the time Sunday rolls around, it lays down on me. This has happened at the last two events I've attended.

Does anyone have a recommendation as to which type of power supply I need to purchase so I can keep it in my trunk and not have to beg for a jumpstart when this happens again? There are so many on the market (Schumacher, B&D, NAPA, etc)that I'm confused as to the best one.

    Re: Power Supply

One syndrome of 'death' on a conventional, open, lead acid battery is loss of water in the cells exposing them to oxidation. Long periods of storage + deep discharge and aggressive re-charging without monitoring the water/acid level and KEEPING the cells topped off is typically the cause.

Once the exposed plates oxidize, you wind up losing charge storage capacity. This is pretty much an irreversible process. Once internal storage capacity is lost, the battery will charge quickly and discharge just as quickly. The only real solution is to replace the battery...

Thanks for the comments, Jack.....In the two years I've owned this battery, I've never let the electolyte get below the plates. I've been very careful and have pulled the battery out of the car to keep the top clean between shows. I've charged it frequently, but only with a 1 amp trickle charger with an automatic shutoff. It may charge for a couple days before shutting off. Based on the comments I've read in this discussion board, I've simply concluded that Restoration Batteries are poor quality and not meant for long life or continual use......Right now because I'm only showing the car, it's the only battery that I can find that gives me a minimum points hit of 7 points (no tar top). I will keep it for now and nurse it along until it quits!

Does anyone else have a recomendation on a portable power source?

I have had one of the PEAK brand power supplies, and keep it behind the seat of my truck. It has been very dependable. I have had it over 2 years. It charges from A/C or the lighter of the car. they run about $55.00 I very seldom ever have to charge it. It also has a flashlight built in
