Question....were the steel crankcase vent tubes painted engine color? I have a suspicion they were. Mine still has a bit on it.
I'm pretty sure I have the part name right, but it's the steel tube from the right valve cover to the air cleaner assembly connect via a small-cut rubber hose.
Al, a good rule of thumb is to look in the Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) and if you see the item listed by PN for installation onto the engine then it was installed on the St. Louis final assy line. That means it wasn't present at the engine plant to 'catch' Chevy orange paint!
GM tried to move as many engine 'accessory' parts down stream to the final assy plant as possible since that minimized inter-plant transportation and inter-division profit elimination on the company books. So, things like starters, carbs, alternators, Etc. were not with the engines when they were assembled...
I believe Al is referring to a 75 which was last year for the cowl induction style air cleaner. I don't believe it used the full metal elbow like the later C3 years
Thanks all. I am working on/detailing my '75 and it's a late build - 26th from the end. It is the CI hood and air cleaner assembly. I don't know how that paint got on there and it's near the top of the tube too. At any rate, I guess I'll leave it just as it is.
