C-1 Coves - Assembly line painting process?

For C-1's for which the painted cove option was selected:
1. Was the entire car, including the coves, painted the base color (say Cascade Green for example), and then the coves painted their color on top of it (Beige, for example)?
or
2. Were the coves masked out and painted separately from the base color?

I am doing some body/paint work on mine and I found the original base car color in the coves - trying to figure out by that if this had the painted cove option or not.

Base first then the cove color.

I remember reading somewhere that some dealers actually painted the coves which made for an interestig variety.

Yes, and an interesting variety that caused...

major issues with the "as delivered" aspect of our Judging Standard. Simply put, the dealer would shoot any cove color it took to satisfy the buyer and sell the car. I'd guess I could shoot a cove in any color you want in about an hour... And everyone is happy, till a current day owner tries to claim that is the way it came from the factory...
