    I don’t know

I don’t know exactly what you have or where you got yours. But I think gasoline would be a solvent for the coating on those looms, particularly when fresh and new. In the last century (:D) GM sold that same loom in bulk, generally 10 or 25 foot rolls. It was in the standard parts book from temp wire loom to the larger size used on the 1963-1967 frame fuel line loom. After GM dropped it I bought it direct from their vendor. I recall it was a coarse woven fiber tube with a saturated covering of asphalt type material – just handling it there would be a transfer of this Black tarry material.

PS Perhaps there may be repro’s of this items also, because I haven’t seen everyone’s offering of this part. But several of the part ***** folk I know have bought this direct. It's not hard to find, nor expensive to buy, however you must get thousands of feet. I'm amazed that anyone would try to repro this part. Where did you get yours?

I think the vendor to GM was "Wireloom" or something like that? I agree it was coated with some tar-like substance I would expect to react to Gasoline.

John, if you have a drain plug that seeps, use Loctite PST (pipe sealant with teflon). I use this on all older vehicle drain plugs as insurance

Dick, The oil pan is a NOS but the plug is an old original. I will keep your advise in mind but can't touch the plug until after the show as I am not changing the oil right now. I mean all dem Chevy's leak. John

Remember the old adage John, "The only Chevrolet that does not leak does not have any oil in it"
