    Hi Bill:

    Thanks, I understand your frustration with old carbs. I'd go with a new service relacement - but plan to jusdge the car this fall. I am going to try to identify and correct the problem.

    my frustration was with this carb not old carbs, the reason i chose the 770 was it was only $350 and if it was not the problem i could ebay it after i tested it, or even return it. the only correct carb, that i see if i were to be judged, would be a date coded 3247. i did not see the point in buying a replacment 3247 if i was going to replace it with a correct one when i find one. but it did give me the answer to the problem.
