    1955 Electrical Fire...Generator Polarity???

    Hello,

A friend of mine had a minor electrical fire in his 1955 Corvette that he is finishing the restoration on. The car was sitting in his shop idling at the time. Damage from the fire was limited to the engine wiring loom, voltage regulator and generator. I don't know too much more other than he is concerned as to were it may have started. If the generator polarity was reversed, could this have caused the fire?

    Thanks,

    James West

If the generator wasn't properly polarized and came up in reverse polarity, it could have run a LOT of current through the harness in the wrong direction...
