This will probably qualify as the dumb question of the day, however, I will ask anyway. What is the trick to installing french locks on the exhaust manifold and rear half shafts to keep them from turning and twisting (distorting them) when tightening the bolts?

Re: French Locks

As Ken mentioned, anti-seize compound is the thing to use. However, I GREATLY prefer to use stainless steel french locks for both the manifold and half-shaft flange applications. Not only don't they rust, but they are far less susceptible to the "twisting" problem you described. Of course, it also harder to "bend the tabs over". I don't mind, though. Stainless steel french locks is NOT a substitute for the anti-seize compound; I still use anti-seize on the stainless steel locks. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
