    '74 BB Q-Jet serial numbers

Just went to check the Quadrajet carb numbers on my '74 BB 4spd. Up until now I believed that the Q-Jet was the original, now I'm not so sure. The location and number is as follows: driver's side just above the secondaries throttle pivot #17055037 #1225 (below).....am I looking at the right location for this number? If this is the proper location can anybody identify this carb? The correct number is listed as #7044221

    Thanks in advance......Mel

      Hi Motorman...

Do you have any sources as to where I might buy a correct Q-Jet (#7044221) for this car? Thanks for your reply

            Mel,

One source for a carburetor core is Mark Smith of McQueeney, Texas. I think I have seen Mark's ads in the Driveline, but not the last one. Mark doesn't rebuild the carb himself, but can recommend a rebuilder. Others here have recomemended Jerry Luck highly.

In looking through the last Driveline, I noticed Chicago Corvette (708-458-2500) had an ad showing two 7044221 Quadajets; one date coded 23Jan74 and the other 12Mar74. I would look for something dated about eight weeks or less before the engine build date. The ad doesn't show the price for these rebuilt carburetors. I have not ordered from Chicago Corvette, so I don't know about their service.

BTW, I hope you got your doors adjusted properly. After I posted about the slotted holes for the hinges, I found they were actually on the hinge column side of the body rather than in the door hinge.

              Chuck,

Thanks for the tip. I will check in the Driveline, (didn't look there) being a new member guess I just forgot about it. The engine build date is 12/18, so I guess neither of the carbs will qualify for my application. I'll just keep on looking.

Regarding my door adjustments...I did not yet have the time to adjust them, but your post was most helpful here.

              Thanks again Mel Goff
