I have been told that my "72 is missing a cover on the right front inner fender skirt. the cover apparently (so I have been told) is to cover two A/C hoses that run to the condenser in front of the radiator. The hoses are just inside the front right tire and to the front of the inner skirt. I hope this is understandable.

Re: 1972 - INNER FENDER SKIRT
Yep...Unless 72s are different from 70s, there is a fiberglass cover, aka PN 3956052, Shield in UPC C60, Sheet B2, that is bonded to the inner fender. My AIM shows it receiving rivets, but in fact, my car does not have the rivets...the shield is permanently bonded to the inner fender and is not removeable.
This shield covers the AC hoses where they exit the engine compartment and pass through the front bulkhead to the condenser. I expect its intended function is to protect the AC hoses from exposure to road debris in the wheel well.- Top

Re: 1972 - INNER FENDER SKIRT
Thanks chuck. I have looked and look in my AIM and did not find it. Can yougive me some general idea as to where it is located in your AIM's. Do you know if your's is original? One more thing Where can I get one?
Thanks again.

Re: 1972 - INNER FENDER SKIRT
See the options sections at the back of the AIM. The sections are in alphabetical order...look for the air conditioning section UPC C60. In the 70 AIM, the shield is shown on Sheet B2.
I wouldn't want to have the problem of finding one of those shields. You might check with Corvette Image; maybe they are reproducing the shield...otherwise, I doubt you'll find it unless you can find an original from a donor car.- Top

Why not...
buy a reproduction? See Chicago Corvette's Catalog, PN 8200531, $49.95, 68-72 RH Inner Skirt AC Baffle Duct (protects freon hoses as they pass thru the wheel well. Probably listed in Eckler's catalog as well...
This is a common part left off A/C cars after crash repair work.- Top

Riveted Or Bonded?!...Anyone Know MY Application?
My 70 AIM shows the shield riveted, but the shield is actually bonded on my late 70. I suspect the riveted shield is a late 70 AIM change that never made it into 70 production. Anyone know if 71 shields were riveted or bonded? How about 69s?...Riveted or bonded?
Just another Corvette trivia dot to be connected. I'm curious to know if the bonded shields were body shop simplification to make assembly more efficient, or if this was engineering change made after 70 to make removal of the shield more practical.- Top

Re: Riveted Or Bonded?!...Anyone Know MY Applicati
My 69 AC BB does not have one. There are scuff marks in the fender skirt at the front hole on the left and just to the rear of the rear hole as though the area was prepped for the adhesive, however there is no evidence that it was installed, no adhesive remnants or holes. The car was never hit in the front, so I don't think it was left off due to prior body work. It appears it just wasn't installed from day one. Since it is suppose to have one, I guess I will look at a 69 AC, see how it is installed and put one on.

Quick Answer...
All I've ever seen were simply bonded in place (and pretty sloppily at that). But, since you asked, I checked by copy of the '71 AIM. INTERESTNG!!!
The Revision Record block state "3831887 Rivet Removed" on AIM date 7-16-70 along with other comments about the drawing being revised and adhesive being added. This suggests the shield being affixed with rivets vs. being bonded to the inner fender was a short lived 1970 production method...- Top

Re: Quick Answer...
My final issue 70 AIM has a clean Revision Record Block, and the sheet is dated 4/29/69. But, my late 70 (built 7/30/70) already has the 71 style bonding?! It's unusual to see a change implemented before the AIM is revised; usually it's the other way around. Now I'm wondering how the early 70s with C60 were done...I'm beginning to wonder if the riveted shield was EVER in production.- Top
