    C1 (1960) exhasut Shields

The exhaust shields (the ones that go through the body in the back) were rusted away when I began this restoration. Do the originals stick out through the rear of the body at all, or are they flush?
    Thanks in advance

    Rod:
The upper half of the shield is flush with the outside edge of the seam extension. The mounting holes on the replacement shields should locate the shields in the body.

Glad I saw this post? I just recently got serious about getting my old 58 project going. While going through the trunk I found one fiberglass exhaust cone and one very rusted metal piece that looked like an exhaust cone. Any idea as to when the change from fiberglass to metal happened?

        Bill:
Sorry, don't know for sure. A friend's '58 has fiberglass. I would suspect the changeover might have come on the '59 model. Maybe some of the other members have more information.

Howard, thanks for info. I didn't really know that metal extensions existed until I saw your post. Then, I just received a new catalog from Corvette Central and I noticed 58L-60 (to some newer year) metal extensions. I was actually going to throw the metal extension away because it just didn't look very "real" to me (and I just hate RUST & PITTING)? Anyway, it is starting to look more real now! My 58 is a May 28 car so maybe she should have the metal ones. Unfortunately, the fiberglass piece kinda appears to have probably been fitted originally? Guess I will just call my car early-late 58 and use another fiberglass cone. Bill
