    C1 correct rim color

Can some one help me with the correct rim color for my 58. I know it's silver, but I've picked up a spare set of radials for cruising and I want to get my rims to the right color. I'm not worried about judging, so is there something in a spray can that will get me close? Thanks!

    Re: C1 correct rim color

    Ty,
I tried to find a recommendation for the rims on my '57 that needed to be painted silver. I wound up using the Inca silver from OEM paints in single stage urethane. I could find no reference in the archives and the reference books I have ('56-'57 JG and Noland Adams book) have no reference for wheel paint color codes other than standard paint codes.

Don, the '57 cove silver which is the same as the '56 silver was never reformulated until recently when Tom Ames discovered that Dupont had done so but only in 2 part paint. Dupont paint code is 58559. Gary....

        Gary,
Did the factory use the same color on the coves as on the rims when the rims were to be painted silver?

          Don,

Not sure what '57 color combo you have, here's example info for Silver acrylic body paint from the '57 Judging Manual. This info's in the back of the manual.
          - one tone all Silver (A) body and cove and Silver for wheels
          - two tone, Silver (A) body and Ivory (A) cove and Silver for wheels

Know the "A" defines Inca Silver Acrylic paint on very late VIN's. Since the wheels Silver does not have an "A" - would have to assume it's the '56 Body and '56-7 Cove Silver.

          Hope this helps. Good luck,

          Gary

            Gary,
I looked at the '56-'57 JG for my vehicle color combination which is Polo White with a beige interior. The Noland Adams C-1 guide listed 12 vehicles with that color/trim. I am certain of the exterior and trim colors that were on this car when new. There was one of those vehicles that had silver coves, I do not think mine was that car. I am not home and don't have my JG in front of me but the recollection was it listed the wheels as silver there and in the Noland Adams C-1 book but the actual paint name or code was not listed.

Don, one has to assume when it the Corvette drawing says Silver it's referring to the Silver which was used on coves as well as wheels. That's the Dupont paint code in my earlier post which was not well known about until Jan of this year when a black with silver cove '57 was painted and the paint code found. Until now everyone's been using Inca Silver for coves and wheels because an offset code wasn't available. IMHO your wheels should be Silver not Silver Acrylic aka Inca Silver. Regards, Gary....

                Gary,
I posted this same question in March and received no response with regard to the best silver color for the wheels, already painted them Inca!

                  Don -

The cove silver was lacquer, and the wheel paint was enamel.
