    1963 Ammeter

    Hi all,

The ammeter on my 1963 stopped working. Basically the needle lays out flat horizontal (left) and does not move at all(was working just a few days ago). I've tried disconnecting the battery, starting the motor, etc.. with no luck.

Do I need to pull this thing out again to have it repaired or is there a way to get the needle pointing back up??

    Thx,

    Joel

    Re: 1963 Ammeter

Joel, I had a problem with the ammeter on my 63. With the key off the needle was pointing to the charge side. There seems to be a fair amount of NOS ones available for about 125.00. Ebay and otherwise. I would buy one ASAP and put your old one on the shelve. We put a NOS one in and the thing works perfect. Joe Ray said not worth messing with the old one at this time as long as NOS is available. Not fun to install though. My friend Dave put the NOS one in my car without removing the dash cluster. Get yourself an assortment of 1/4" sockets and wrenches. It's easier to remove the seat first too. Then get a nice thick pillow so you can lay rather flat on your back and operate. Good job to farm out. If you needle keeps beat to the turn signals that is a sign of needing a new ammeter according to Joe Ray and others. That pulsating amp will blow your changes of making PV too. But otherwise it won't hurt a thing. John

      Joel,

I had my ampmeter from my 67 rebuilt last weel by Corvette specialties in Maryland. It took two days and cost $ 50.00. Its back in my car now.
