I believe I have a faulty driver's side conduit at the rear deck's lip, near the hinge support...
How does one diagnose and repair a faulty drainage conduit?
Water is not coming through the windows, seals, or the soft top...Which leaves poor drainage at the notches on the rear deck, in the trough area, and a faulty driver's side conduit.
This is sad as my carpet is now soaked, and it's my fault because I drilled out the factory's notch (plugged up with body filler by prior Bubba's) thinking that was the problem.
My plan:
A water-dribble test revealed water flowed through the passenger side notch and down and out from under it’s respective weep-hole in the wheel well area.
Only a very small amount of water flowed through the driver’s side.
The fix? Unclog the body-filler plugging-up the driver’s side notch since 1989.
So, I carefully drilled and filed, enlarging the DS notch to about 60% of the size it should be.
Before washing the car, I placed towels and plastic on the carpet area to hopefully prevent water, if it still overwhelmed the drainage, from wetting the carpet. I was not overaggressive with the garden hose.
Well, all horizontal rear deck carpet & padding got absolutely soaked again! I should have tried the dribble test again.
Call me crazy but, water seems to have soaked the carpet from UNDERNEATH!? Is that possible?
The carpet that covers the wheel hump and hinge support area is dry, as were my towels. Somehow, water got in, soaking all horizontal carpet from UNDERNEATH?!
The three REAR stowage doors’ carpet is bone dry.
If the duct work is clogged, missing, or simply wasn’t “fixed” correctly during '89’s body-on resto, can anyone explain how water would soak the carpet by getting into, and up-and-under the deck area? It's not draining out from under the car.
Thanks a lot,
adam
