    oil cocktail

I have been reading much lately about Rotella vs. regular oils. Problems with increased oil pressure, leaks and so on. What do the oil experts think about using a combination of Rotella and regular oil? What ratio? Also what about GM EOS added with every oil change? Your comments please.

    Re: oil cocktail

I think that Rotella will do just fine without mixing it with another oil. I probably would not add EOS unless that I was breaking in a new engine. I have run Rotella or it's equivilent since the early '60's and have never had an engine failure. I buy it by the 55 gallon drum.

Dumb! Forget the other forums. Search this one. Get an education. Why just a few days ago...

Don't search brand names. Use generic terms like "CJ-4"

other than flat tappet camshaft breakin i

can not see any reason not use any type of engine oil even synthetic in fresh overhauled engines. i have been running mobil 1,not the extended life type, in my 88 silverado for 150,000 miles and it has a flat tappet camshaft

Duke pointed me in the Rotella direction years ago....works great, and keeps the engine cleaner than regular blends would. I wish I knew half of what Duke has forgotten!

              Oil pressure cold vs. hot

At startup, the oil pressure may be slightly higher longer - the pressure should be limited by the pressure relief valve on the oil pump, so the max pressure will be the same. That being said, when using the 15W40, I have found the pressure stays at max for maybe a minute or two longer until the oil heats up, then it comes down to the exact same place it was with "regular" 10W40. Unless you're REALLY looking for it and you really watch the gauges, you would NEVER know.

I have been buying my CI-4 oil at SAM'S Club, I just get whatever brand is cheapest and it works fine. Thanks again to those here who let me know about it!
