eBay mystery hub

I was going to bid in a steering wheel hub auction on eBay, but the number on the hub (9768377) doesn't appear in any of my old Corvette parts books. The hub casting numbers that I've seen in the past have been GM part numbers, so I assume this one is also.

Can someone please identify this hub for me?

Well, it's still going to be a mystery, I'm afraid. This does look like a GM part number and it is part of a series of numbers that are usually used for steering column components, among other things. However, I can't find any record of it having been used in any GM vehicle. It is not a current part number in the GM parts system and I can find no record of it having been superceded or discontinued since at least 1973. I'm not going to check any further back since I don't think that number could have existed prior to 1973. However, it's VERY possible that the number on the casting is just a casting number and NOT a finished part number. In any event, I can find no record of such a PART NUMBER ever having been used on a Corvette.

I know it took you a while to check out that number. Thanks very much. Actually, just linking it to a post-'73 part number series is enough information to determine my bid.

Jerry --- FWIW, my 1980 GM parts price manual jumps from part # 9765xxx to 9770xxx, so, as Joe says, maybe it was PART of an assy., not sold separately.
