Does anyone know if there is anything left of the original Nikki Chevrolet in Chicago? I'm in town and wanted to go by and see anything there is to see since my car was orginally purchased there. If anyone knows the address of the orginal company, I would love to have it.
You are right. I believe the spelling is Nickey. Sorry for the mistake. Do you know anything about the business? Is it in the same location as it was back in 57?
Ashley, Nicky (k is typically backwards) is very much in existence. In fact the owners son has a lot of paper work on the race cars and special hi-performance steel Chevy's they sold. Their original service manager who handled the hi-perf cars is still living and very alert for 80 yrs old. I have a friend who can tell you a lot of info but he's at the Bloomington show. Email me and I'll arrange for you two to talk at great length next week. He lives near the dealership and is an NCRS member from way back like me.
One day not too many years ago Chip Miller called me all excited cause Nickey's had a fat file folder on his Purple People Eater car- the 59. So I think you will be extremely pleased. Probably one of the few Chevy dealers in the USA that can go back to day one for you on your toy. Around here-forget it. John D.
Since posting my original message, I've found the Nickey webpage and called them. I'm in town for the Bloomington show as well. I talked to a guy that works there and Nickey will have a table set up at the show. He asked me to find him and give him any information that I can about my car. He is going to try and find out what he can.
Should I try to find your friend this weekend? If so, I'd love to talk to him.
By the way, is the original service manager you mention named Lindy?
