PF 25 Filter

I have checked vendors, Paragon & Corvette central for the reproductions of the PF25 oil filter and GF432 fuel filter. It seems no one has them in stock, pending license agreements, etc.

Are the repros that scarce or is my timing off as usual?

Does anyone have a source I should try?

Erv - I've experienced periods where the PF-25 repos were not available from several vendors for months on end. I don't know why. So I just bought several when they were available. Patrick Moresi #45581

I would think that they will be harder to come by as AC no longer is producing the filter, and is superseded by the 454 AC filter. I don't know what the repop filters will be made off of now that the old filter is out of production they might use a puroilater or any one that has the same dimensions has the old AC filter.

So if you have a 454 AC filter and the car is judged what typwe of point deduction do you receive versus a PF 25 reproduction?

I didn't lose a single point at both a chapter and regional with the PF-25 white repo, but I've read that others have.

I would imagine you'd take a fairly big hit with the 454 because it's blue, and as I recall is noticably shorter than the PF-25. Patrick Moresi #45581

Baldwin Filters offers their B-27 that may be what you are looking for, paint it the correct color, not sure what you would do about any logo that was on the original filters.

Baldwin makes very fine filters. Well regarded by those folks who study those sorts of things. Check bobistheoilguy.com for more oil filter information.

Baldwin makes filters for service to industry as well as consumers. Take a look at their website. I believe you will find their filters to be high quality as well as meeting whatever requirement there is among readers of the TDB for "heavy duty". Did the General install HD filters in cars that came off the production line?

The PF 25 was also used on 68 small blocks according to my NCRS 68-69 Judging Guide.

The CORRECT '68 filter is a PF-29. Very tough to find, but I understand that it is in the process of being repro'ed

This is frustrating.
What is the purpose of an NCRS Judging and Technical Manual if the information is incorrect. My third edition states (on page 76) that the PF 25 is the correct filter for a 68 so I spend close to $100 to get a correct Original PF 25 in the box for my restoration only to find out now that the "Bible" is wrong. It's the third edition and they have had 39 years to get it right. I have heard others make similar complaints and now I see what they mean.
If PF 29 is the correct filter, why does the 68-69 Judging Manual list a PF-25 as correct?

Kurt, we did not know about the PF 29 when the manual was written. I have been involved with manual revisions for about 15 years and I can tell you that the more we learn, the more questions we have. The manuals are very time consuming and the individuals that do the revisions are all volunteers. As soon as a new manual comes out we find things that were omitted and should be included. We have about 10 pages of notes of things that has been learned since the last manual came out. At some point the determination will be made to do a revision, but not immediately. Quite a few that were involved with the '70-'72 revision will be involved with the '68-'69 manual and most of them want to take a break. Many moons ago I restored a couple of Model "A" Fords. Did them to the same standard that we do Corvettes. The Model A club issued a new manual with over 50 changes and this car was over 50 years old. So you see it is not a problem unique the the Corvette's. I loved doing the cars that there were no manuals, such as Reo's and one off Packards. But that is another story for another day

The PF 25 is still accepted on the judging field and will be for some time to come.
