    MidYear Door Assembly Question

I have a question as to how the metal hinge plate is mounted in the door assembly of my 66 convertible.

After months of tinkering with the door and hinge adjustments, I find that the front edge of the door still protrudes at the front fender line. I am now convinced that the problem is in the door assembly itself.

Is the metal plate simply riveted inside the door assembly, or is it also bonded to the fiberglass? I may have to do surgery or replace the door completely.

      Mark -

The hinge reinforcement in the door is riveted to the door facing; you'll see the rivet heads adjacent to the hinge opening.

        Phil,

All the shims are removed. I recall when I took the door off several years ago, it only had one shim. My error was to not take photos of the car before disassembly to remind me of the alignment. Perhaps the door always fit poorly and now I am trying to correct a problem that was always there. Anyway, your thoughts are appreciated.
