    Engine oil pressure fitting

Have a 63 early SWC fuelie. Need someone to describe/identify an oil pressure line fitting.
The fitting goes into a bronze tee on top, rear of the engine, next to the distributor. The missing fitting, with an approx. 1/8" NPT male thread, goes into the tee, horizontally, into which the oil pressure gage line is connected. (The line on top of the tee connects to the distributor, which came with the tee assy purchased from Paragon.)
I have the original, copper oil pressure line, coming from the dash oil pressure gage.
At the end is a round ferrul, crimped on, when tightened into the fitting (which is missing). There is a sleeve nut on the oil line.
I looked at all the vendors catalogs, but can't find the appropriate fitting listed.
Can someone identify this fitting, and were to buy it ? I have not tried any GM dealer yet...

    Re: Engine oil pressure fitting

Rainer, Sounds like you have some incorrect fittings. Maybe not all but some of them. First of all the oil gauge line is copper plated steel-not copper. Second the line should connect to the FI distributor oil line kit via a weatherhead fitting #6100X2. Go to your local NAPA dealer although most of them now have another company's fittings. But they can cross the number over.
Your copper line should not have a nut and ferrel. That is old auto parts store hotrod stuff. The copper line should go inside the 6100X 2 fitting and then that fitting goes into an adapter fitting that NAPA has.I can't find the number here. Had a chart but misplaced it. The adapter fitting is 1/8" pipe where it screws into the "T" fitting. The "T" fitting is 3750X2 .Typically most of the repro distr oil ine kits on the market are not correct. Few of them have all the proper fittings. The fittings of today are mostly metric on the outside. Fat fittings we call them. But they will still function OK. For example the 6100X2 fitting today has a hex that is much larger than the original 63 style fitting. But nothing you can do about that. If you need more help email me at johndegreg@aol.com I do not sell parts on this DB but can see you are in trouble with what you have. If you don't get the correct fittings you will have a big time oil leak and mess for sure. John

Ranier,Most of the repro oil line kits are missing this fitting. 3200X2. It screws into the engine block. It's a long adapter hex fitting. Some of the kits uses a round copper pipe. Totally incorrect. So get a 3200X 2, a 3750X2 T, a readily available 1/8" coupler screws on top of the T. Then your bare steel (tern finished) distr oil line screws into that. Then the line screws into a 90 degree fitting on the distributor. Wish I could find the missing number. Maybe some one will chirp in. John

        Re: Engine oil pressure fitting

Thanks John, I will make a trip tp NAPA on Mon. I will also try to take a photo tomorrow and post it, so you can see what exactly I have as far as fittings and oil line.
Once I have the fittings from NAPA, I will know what to do next.
I am getting ready to start the engine, I may put a 1/8" gage into the open tee, in place of the line going to the dash gage, will see...

Ranier, The 1/8" gauge will be a nice touch. Actually not a bad idea for a new engine. I assume you have done your homework on the oil, etc. you should use. Go on the archives cause there are a couple of hundred posts on that. IT's sure neat hearing an FI engine run for the first time. Especially if they start up at all. heeee. Good luck, John

            Re: Engine oil pressure fitting

I followed the past posts regarding what oil to use.
I primed and filled the engine with Rotunda oil, added GM EOS additive and its ready to go.
The engine should fire-up, since I ran it 2 years ago for approx 20 min. Hpe it does not backfire and pop my cold start cranking valve...
I also googled the weatherhead fittings you suggested and will get them on mon from NAPA.

Rotunda huh. I would tell you the correct name but if I do someone will holler at me.HE gets mad if I mention name brands. Those new fittings will work albeit they are oversize on the outside. Not really metric-just fat fittings. Someone once mentioned what kind of wrench it takes to put those things on. What are those "metric" fittings called as far as the wrench to use guys??? I think it's a British measurement but don't know. Metric sockets fit rather sloppy on those fat fittings. Too loose. John

                Is it Whitworth?(sp)

I'd change the oil and filter again if you haven't since last start up.
