    C1 1962 1110984 Distributor Questions

    Hi,
I am on the search for a 1110984 distributor used on the '62 327 base 250HP motor. Does anyone have any photos? It's a single point tach drive unit. I can't find any good photos anywhere(Nolands' book, archives here, etc).

    Thanks,
    Rich

All the single point tach drive distributors look the same externally to casual observation. The differences are the ignition advance map, which are internal except for the number on the vacuum advance control, and, of course, the band with the part number.

You can procure any single point tach drive distributor, configure the ignition advance map something near OE and get a repro part number band.

      Duke,
I thought that the 1110984 distributor was unique in that it had a GITS cap for oiling unlike later distributors and did not have the oil tube like the earlier distributors.

My understanding is that only the dual point has an oiling port, but anyone with a '62 300HP with the original 094 distributor can set us straight.

Rick's right on!!!!!!!!! (Although the cap was not necessarily branded "GITS", it was that spring-loaded cap style. on the vertical surface of the outside of the distributor, with no oil tube, as Rick indicated. (Great design--trying to get oil to flow sideways to lubricate without dripping out--defying gravity is something I've not yet mastered in any endeavor.)

            Thanks Rick & Mike,

What is a GITS cap? So I need to find one of those too? I'm so confused. I've been trying to see what a 984 looks like. Can't find pics anywhere.

              "What is a GITS cap?"

It's a generic name (one of many mfgr's) for the circular, spring loaded, flip-top oiler covers used in a number of applications like those that feed the front and rear bearings of your generator. They simply press-fit into a pipe or hole and come in different geometry selections of height + OD....

                Jack,
Thanks for the GITS explanation. Much clearer now.....So no oil tube but has the oil port, ok.

Still looking for a detailed photo as I think I've found one. It's tach drive, no oil tube(as JM states), can't see oil cap, has vacuum advance(as JM states), has a band(can't read pt#), but on the band it's even correcly dated for my early 62 car.

                Thanks Guys,
                Rich
