    403 bellhousing

The 403 bellhousing on my '67 L79 has a number 6 cast into it above the casting number. A few of the same housings in my spare parts supply have a number 7 that is cast above but much closer to the casting number. Does the number 6 or 7 cast into the bellhousing designate a particular application for that bellhousing (corvette, camaro etc.)even though it is still a 403 housing? Thanks to any member for a response and Happy Father's Day to all of you fathers out there!

Not that I know of. I don't think that there was any difference in the '403' castings used for Corvette or other models. The number you describe is, more likely, a mold number or a revision number.
