    Propeller Shaft..aka...Drive Shaft Markings C2

Yep...the old memory ain't what it used to be. Does anybody know if the drive shaft has a correct front and aft? I have attached a pic of my mine after media blasting. You can clearly see the protective effect of the green inspection paint splotch. Was this inspection marking on the front or aft of the shaft?

    adieu....

      Jim,
Here below is a drawing of mine during disassembly. I have no photos of the final restored item. This is from my '67 327/300 Corvette.
      Regards,

What year are we talking about, my 64 has rings at trans end and some drops on rearend end. Qunata tries to keep track of these, however new information is always coming into them.
The rings have been seen front and rear and index marks have also been seen front and rear. To some extent it appears to be related to year.

When I pulled the driveshaft off of my 66 there were two distinct lines, like the drawing above, where the paint stripes had protected the metal. The paint was long gone but the nice condition of the metal contrasted with the pitted surface of the rest of the shaft. Iirc, the lines were at the front of the shaft.

Nice documentation job Kent! I suspect my late 1965 is different from 67. There is no indication of any banding. Based on your info looks like my splotch is equivalent to your blue balancing indexing marks to the diff. I am surprised that the shaft is not independently balanced and neutral to the diff. Was your fore balancing weight further from the U-joint than the aft?
