63 Fram Stencil, drivers side or passenger side?

There seems to be a lot of confusion out there on the 1963 (ONLY) Stencil on the frame. Last weekend I was at the MAC Chapter event and talked to a few folks about this and all stated it was on the passengers side, but it did not seems like a real sure answer.

When I did my fame I saw portions of what was left of the original stencil on the DRIVERS side about two - three feet in front of the rear wheel. I have seen some others on the drivers side as well as the passenger side. I simply put the stencil back where I found the remnents of the orginal, but at the time really did not take photos, as I thought nothing of it. Oh if I ONLY KNEW what I know now.

Anyhow, with the Nationals coming up I want to put the stencil back to where it WILL NOT cause contraversy,,,I try to avoid this, however I do feel funny doing this based on what I know about my 63 and where I found the white paint leftovers... Let me make this clear it was unintelligable, small pieces of what appeared to be numerals at one time, very faded and most of it was gone.

Like to know what the verdict is on this. I am willing to move the stencil to the passengers side to make everybody happy, but before I do, I want to make sure...thoughts?

    Many Thanks on this....Collin

Collin, if you have the 63/64 Restorer on CD, do a search on 63 Stencil. You will find an article and pictures that document the stencil on both sides.

I'm note sure how a judge can give you a point deduction when NCRS via the Restorer has already document both sides.

Collins, Harry is right for sure. But to make it easy if you have it on the pass. side you are safe. I didn't know on my car for sure. But my friend remembered that my original one was on the pass. side. THere were many posts about this subject a year ago. Put it on the pass side and forget forget about it. But either side is correct. DOn't know what the manual says. John
