    67 directional switch problem

My origional one wouldn't hold in position so I replaced with a new one from Long Island Corvette. It works properly when making a full turn, but on a half
turn when it does not return automatically and I have to return it manually,
both rear lights blink rapidly, which looks like a short. Long Island replaced
the switch, but the new one does the same thing. My origional one did not have that problem. Does anyone have any thoughts???

I assume the front light blinks at the same rate as the rear lights.

    1. Have you tried a new flasher to slow down the rate?
    2. Do they blink faster than your newer car?

It could be that the new switch, being clean, has less resistance than the old which will cause the lights to blink faster (possibly the normal rate as opposed to an old system than has shown its age) and the lights might be a tab bit brighter.

When I restored my 67 I cleaned up all the contacts in the original harness and installed new bulbs. You wouldn't believe it was the same system, lights much brighter and the flash rate faster. Looks like a brand new car.... and all the components (except bulbs) are original.

As far as canceling on a partial turn.... Check to see if there are any small dimensional differences from old to new in the canceling mechanism. My original doesn't necessarily cancel everytime on a partial turn.

      Walt,

I put in a new repro switch on my 67 from the partsladi (new repro supposed to be correct, but red in color), for the same reason you did yours. With the lane change feature, if you hold the lever up or down without a click, it is supposed to center once you take the the pressure off the lever.

If you hold the lever up or down to a click, it takes a full turn (90 degrees or thereabouts) to cancel it and bring the lever back to center. A partial turn won't cancel the signal.

Also noticed when I was replacing the signal switch that the repro canceling cam (which I also had) has a different spacing position of the cam release on the part. So I put my original cancelling cam back on.
