63 Spare tire position in tub

I apologize in advance if this has been covered. I've searched the restorer without success.

I just got my original spare wheel back from the paint shop and am ready to mount my new spare tire. This may sound silly, but which way is the correct way to stow the spare ?? Face up or face down ?? Or does it not even matter ? My thought was to stow it with the whitewall up. (towards gas tank ) Sounds stupid, but when I got ready to put it in, I just had to think "How did the factory do it ?" Thanks for the help in advance.

Me thinks you are correct with the whitewall up approach. Bet that wheel looks like a dandy..

I thought I was the only one crazy enough to think that. Just kidding. I put the white wall up so to keep it nice and clean. Then when you pull it out for the judges it is white side up. (right side up). Whatever. I don't think there is a right or wrong way for a steel wheel. Others may disagree. John
