    C2 Hardtop Assembly procedure ?

Does anyone have a step by step procedure for the assembly of a 65 hardtop. Starting with a painted bare shell. I beleive I should start with doing the headliner first followed by its painted interior trim. Turn the hardtop upright and make some type of support to hold it up. Install the rear window molding clips, then the window weatherstip, then fit the window into the wstrip., use the string method like the glass windshield, followed by the SS molding. complete the weatherstrip install. Am I close? Thanks for your time. DG

Dick, this is just one man's opinion, but I'd install the rear window first. If you install the headliner and painted interior trim first, the piece(s) of trim over and around the rear window are going to cover part of the rear window weatherstrip, possibly making installation more difficult. Plus, without the headliner in at this point, you don't run the risk of damaging it or getting it dirty.

Also, after the rear window, I'd install all the weatherstrip (front header, rear, sides, etc), then all the stainless, then the headliner and painted trim. Over the door window, the painted trim fits on top of the stainless, so you won't have to loosen the painted trim if you install it after the stainless. That can become a problem (loosening the trim), because the parts fit into one another.

BTW, what are you going to use for weatherstrip cement and caulk? I asked one of the hardtop restoration shops, and they said that they use no cement. I didn't use any cement on my hardtop, but I did use rope caulk under the stainless. Hope this may help.

Larry: Thanks for the advice. My forward SS trim had a type of black caulk. Similar to my 3M strip caulk. I will use this strip caulk. Thanks DG
