    66 C2 seat belt orientation

I am installing my restored first design "early" seat belts. The outer belt has a vinyl sleeve retainer that covers one side of the anchor and is exposed on the other side of the anchor. When installed does the exposed (chrome)portion of the anchor face the interior (console) of the car or exterior ?

The AIM did not show enough detail to tell me.

    Randy -

The exposed side is toward the interior (seat) on my October '65 coupe.

      Mark,

      Thanks.
Good I was thinking the restorer put the belt webbing in backwards.
With the exposed side of the anchor showing (seems like the vinyl covered side should be facing the interior) the folded back piece of webbing on the D ring is facing down when the belt is buckled.

        Randy,

Did you install the sleeve before the anchor was sewn on or can they be installed after the fact?

          TC,
I did not install the sleeves (retainers)

I sent the sleeves off with the belts because I was afraid I would tear them trying to remove them. The D ring and anchor are wider than the slot in the sleeve. I think the restorer sewed the anchors on after, that would be easiest.

I remember reading in the archives they can be heated and installed after the fact.

The side you can see when installed, should be covered. The purpose is to make it look better. Sounds like yours is backward.

              Wayne,

That's what I first thought. But on the other hand, with the anchor side exposed the bulge for the retractor spring faces the sill plate which seems correct.

Also the TIM &JG says the anchor ID.5000.75.17 should be stamped on one side. If this side faced the carpet how could you read the ID?
