    '64 Wheel color; shocks

    Two questions:

    1) How "glossy" is the black color supposed to be on the steel wheels of a late '64? Is the inside of the rim painted a semi-gloss black and the outside a glossy black or do both sides have the same level of gloss? I'm using the third edition of the JM and it is not clear.

    2) Any recommendations on replacement shocks (front and rear) that at least "resemble" the grey-colored originals. My car is a nice driver so I am not looking for NOS items.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated....

    Gary -

The wheels were dip-primed semi-gloss black, then the face was painted with high-gloss wheel enamel.

You can get current Delco replacement shocks, repaint them, apply the stickers, and that's about as close as you're going to get.

John,The current Delco replacement shocks don't have Delco on them anymore. Gone. All you get now is ones with a Delco Decal stuck on them.Pull the decal off and they are of unknown vintage. Also they are made south of the border. Says so stamped very very heavy. I use them at Carlisle to help keep the vendor table from blowing away. Such a deal if anyone wants them. John D.

        John-----

Yes, they are as you describe. Nevertheless, they are just as John mentioned----as close as you're going to get in a currently manufactured shock for a Corvette. Plus, they will perform well and they're relatively inexpensive.

If you folks search ebay for 1964 Corvette shocks you will find a fellow who is actually selling restamped new shocks that are part and date coed just as the originals. I think he is asking about $750 for mthe complete set. They look good to me.

          Cheers,
          Craig
