Need to replace the sidepipes (not the shields etc) on a 66 327-350 hp conv. This year engine needs a 2 inch exhaust pipe at the manifold. Does anyone out there make the correct pipes that will not get a deduction. Thanks in advance

John,

We are the muscle car sound. We're bringing back the ground-shaking rumble that every muscle car fan loves! Custom designs for Corvettes, Camaros and more. Every piece is custom crafted for a precision fit. We hold all of our products to the highest of standards. Home of Sweet-Thunder side pipes.
These manufacturers make reproduction sidepipes that look like originals on the outside, and probably will get a minimal deduction. All are made from carbon steel, if you like, with chromed exhaust tips, not SS. The innards are somewhat different than originals, and would not pass a PV. The perforated pipe used inside is thicker than originals, and the perforations are produced by a process that cannot reproduce the original shape and size of the perfs..............thus, a noticeably different exhaust note.
Last time I looked at the driveline, I saw that Allens purchased an entire sh**load of original GM sidepipes. The ad says something like.........."we'll make them fit your Corvette if they do not". Meaning, I think, that BBC/SBC manifold sections will be interchanged as needed.
Bring lots of $$$$$$$$$$$.
If you decide on the reproductions, be sure to specify: "as original, 2 1/2" OD, carbon steel, with chromed exhaust tips". I would recommend these vendors in the order in which I listed them above, although all three are good, reputable businesses.

Joe -- thanks - I will call Allens on Monday. they are basically 2.5 in pipes that reduce down to 2" to fit the ehaust manifolds. Maybe they have a set of GM pipes. The way the pipes reduce down and how they are welded at this location is where the problem arises.- Top
