What's so special about this ebay PF-25?

The reason I ask is because I thought this style generaly sold on ebay for around the $100 range or less. Is there something that I'm missing with the configuration, silk screening, etc that makes it more of a production type rather than over the counter? I can't see any embossing on the end so that can't be it either.

I'm just curious because I guess I'll have to go the ebay route to pick one up for my 69 seeing as the repops are not available at this time. I'm not however paying that kind of money for one when I'm sure they can be had for a lot less.

I know this post is similar to one I had a few months back but I just find it odd that this one sold for so much...maybe it was because it's for a Camaro

The seller was having a good day with two people who had to have it at any price. It looks like a real PF-25 and they keep geting harder to find and the market sets the price that day. I have seen few under $100. lately. The repos were $45. the last time I looked for one.

Thanks Lyle. Maybe I need to raise my "willing to pay price" a bit then... The main reason that I want one is for those "all important" engine photos before it gets put back into the chassis as well as for judging. Other than that it will be removed and stored because to me it just doesn't make sense to pay that kind of money on a regularly replaced item.

        safe to use?

Just a thought.... Is it really wise to run an oil filter with an old dried out paper element that might dislove once pressurized oil is run through it or do people just spin them on and off strictly for judjing?

          Billy-----

Anyone that uses them for anything besides judging is nuts---for several reasons, not the least of which is the possible deterioration of the filter material.

If stored in a reasonable area, I can't imagine the paper deteriorating in one of those filters in much less than a century or two. We all should live so long.

              Greg,

If you just want one for a picture, borrow one and return it. You probably know a member nearby that has one "lightly used."

Or, 98% of people can't tell the difference when installed anyway, so you can use a repro.

We all know how Corvette people save all the take off parts. Well I drained the oil out of my white filters after judging and have them stored. Now they just may have a use for pictures. I would not reuse them unless I needed points real bad.

Greg, Yes it's the real deal filter alright. Notice the bottom has the large round flat area. Even the typical blue ones with the large flat-about the size of a silver dollar-are getting hard to find. I've seen a the repro white ones that aren't correct cause the round flat area is very small-the size of a 50 cent piece at best. So with the repro having the rim painted white, the circle too small, etc. Then it's no better than a serice replacement blue one. Deduct should be about the same. Maybe buy a nice blue one and work on getting it painted up by a pro. John

                    Lyle,

                    I've got mine too.

I purchased several reproduction oil filter "seconds" and that's what I keep on my car now. Looks right to 99% of the people anyway.

My research shows that 1969 Corvettes had the white paint and the embossed lettering on the end that says BEST WAY TO PROTECT YOUR ENGINE REPLACE WITH AC.
The filter on Ebay appears not to have the embossing. Embossed filters have been going for $250- $350 but the non-embossed are about $100 as others have said.
