owned by Bill Connell..this car was picked up across the street from the St.Louis Plant in May 1957..and driven directly to the 1957 Cumberland SCCA race...where it competed against Dick Thompson, Carroll Shelby, Eb Rose and others.

Re: Howe 57 airbox racecar
The gentleman who went to St. Louis with Bill Howe ( I believe he is Jack Knab)has documentation from the moment the car left the assembly plant through it's racing exploits. The documentation includes pictures, films and much paper documentation. It is great historic paper trail which I am sure Bill Connell will preserve.
The car sat in a barn in Southern Ohio for about 30 years, until the owner finally agreed to sell it to Bill Connell and Joel Lauman and the car was restored locally by Joel Lauman.
In the first race at Cumberland, MD. Bill Howe finished third behind the winner Dick Thompson and the second car Carroll Shelby. What are the chances of that happening today?
All the cars in the BG Special Collection were great. The walk through by Jim Gessner and the car owners was excellent, Bill Locke did a wonderful job as usual.- Top

Jack Knabb
We wanted Jack to attend..as he would have been a star among stars. His racing history and foresight to photograph events is invaluable.
The engine I had on display is the engine out of the Corvette that Carroll Shelby drove that May weekend at Cumberland in 1957.- Top

Mike
I can imagine the withdrawals you are having. One upside is ..the car is in great hands..and has received a spectacular facelift.
I was talking with someone at the show that knew you and your car when you first bought it.
