Re: 68 to 72 wiper cowl area

I have the wiper door off my original owner 70 and when I get the time I am going to reseal the cowl area. I am considering using 3-M strip chalking smashed into the bigger cracks and then covering the cowl area with mar-hyde brand No. 4211 rubberized under coating. It comes in a pressurized can.

Re: Fool'im...Get Black (I Think It Comes In Black

        Chuck.
well Leroy and Cletis stopped by the other week while I was working on the cowl area, scraping up the old seal. Cletis was a bragging about some new knife he bought that would fillet that old seal out whole. well while me and Leroy were fighting with Bubba who was doing it right and trying to keep Bubba at bay, Cletis had that seal cut out in seconds and whole! well I coated the area with cool seal and took just a wet brush over it as it was skimming and SHAZAM, stuff was smooth and slick as a baby butt. next day I put another coat on and coated the back side of the original seal and laid her back in place let that dry till the next day and started my build up over the old seal.

I went by a friends corvette shop and showed him my wiper door and how it all work as factory, but he noticed the cowl area and said
You did one hella of a good job on that. he did tell me that I aligned the door and grill as well as anyone in the bussiness, stating how tuff they can be at times, and questioned me where I found a 68 gm BB hood at?
Told him that I had it for quite awhile.
Any way just wanted to let everyone know that Cletis and Leroy were RIGHT!
        It really looks great!
        Have a Great day

          Just Goes To Show...

Downhome"native" intelligence should never be underestimated! Cletus and Leroy always were wild as indians...all the rest of the family figured they were CITs (Convicts-In-Training).

I guess you didn't realize how good you were on that door/grille alignment. I played with mine a few weeks back, and found that getting the linkage positioned to even up the door end gaps to be a tough proposition...the grill is not so difficult once the door is installed.

Once I would get the linkage where the door end gaps were equal, I would begin tightening all of the linkage nuts. It seemed that all the linkage studs were way off to one side in the firewall slots when the gaps were right. Well, I would tighten the nuts on one side, then walk around the car to the other side only to find that the linkage had shifted while I walked, and one end gap was now twice as big as the other one.

I must have done that routine three or four times before I decided it was time for a break. Where is Cletus and Leroy when you need them?...they must have been helping you.

Yea !! I played with shims and all kinda stuff and your right about the slots on the firewall from the factory, Nice Work! none of the bolt ups look right or true. they just have to fall in line with the fenders without binding the door mechanics, and thats what I did, This is the original door for my car, so it most likely a sure fit and me Cletis and Leroy made it look hard!!:D
Any way I chased them three your way, Good Luck!?
Thanks to all at this forum.

My cousins, BCL (Bubba, Cletus, and Leroy) are constantly looking over my shoulder and anxious to get involved...I'm forever fighting them back to keep this from looking like a Redneck Resto!!! (Only a redneck can use the "R" word...if anybody else uses it, it's an ehnic slur.)

I found that the yellow Bondo spreaders and black spot putty spreaders make great shims while installing the wiper door and wiper vent panel. I'm not sure if Bubba would use them because it's pretty difficult to get them to chip the paint. Bubba LOVES to chip paint . These spreaders are quite soft but will help hold the alignment while you tighten things up.
