The story continues My friend Mike and myself traveled to a cruise night last night about 15 miles away and when we pulled in his 54 started to run rough when slowing down to pull in to the yard hosting the field. It sputtered to a stop and wouldn't restart so he got pushed into a parking spot in the grounds, the car was looking nice too but that took some of the moment away. Reminds me of the days when I lost a voltage regulator and the car used to gradually run down on juice and not start again. He waited for about two hours when we were really to leave and the car started right up again? He is having it looked at this weekend but in the meantime I thought this losing power and sputtering to a stop could give some clues as to it's problem...previous posts said maybe the recent rebuilt engine was too tight does this still seem a possibility?

Re: (Cont'ed) The 54 that shuts down when it gets
Vapor lock and faulty coil come to mind.... Check the routing of the fuel line near heat sources. When it happens again check to see if there is ignition (spark) available. Also check to see if there is fuel available (accel pump fuel shots into the carb).- Top

Re: (Cont'ed) The 54 that shuts down when it gets
I once had a problem with my 68 that was giving me engine running problems. One day it quit and had to walk home. Came back about 2 hours later to check the car and it started right up and I drove it home. Frustration in finding the problem, but it was found in the coil. One of the terminal posts of the coil could be turned. Replaced the original coil and ignition problem solved.- Top
