    C3 steering column removal

What's the trick to removing a standard column on a 69 with automatic transmission?. Switch wiring disconnected, bolts underdash undone, drivers seat removed, steering wheel removed, coupler undone, steel plate under dash (stud with 2 nuts) undone, cable undone on tube lever. I am having getting it through the firewall hole, is there something on the firewall side that needs to be undone?

For Jack H. only: "I have my 69 Chassis Service Manual" section 9-12/13 fig. 33 and I am still stumped! Any and all help appreciated.

Hello, there are two bolts at both sides of the column where it meets the firewall, below the pedals.

If you're talking about the bolts with the nuts inside uner the dash on either side of the column I have those undone......

        Jim,

I have a 75 that I recently removed the steering column. I have an auto too and found that there is a lever attached to the column on the firewall side that needs to be aligned with the opening in the firewall before you can pull the column out. I had to reach down next to the firewall and move the lever to line it up with the opening while having my wife pull on the column from inside the car. Once it is lined up the coulmn moves in and out freely.

        Good luck.

Those are two bolts under the left dash, plus two bolts where the column meets the floor/firewall, 4 bolts total. Removing these four bolts the column will move free and follow what Eric explained in other post.
