I’m really afraid to ask, because I too on occasion have paid more than what some old Corvettes sold for new. But what makes a 1967 black big block worth $467,250? Supposedly that was the bid deal at the BG auction. I’m not being facetious and I did not see it. What made some folk give 1000 times its original value? L88? L89? Another 435?
No such thing as a stupid question. A car, like anything else is worth what someone will pay for it. In this case at least two people with more money than they know what to do with. If you've ever been in an auction you know at some point it becomes a matter of male pride and they bid way more than common sense says they should. I'm like you though, I see no used Corvette worth that kind of money unless it comes with a beautiful tall blonde who takes care of you and the car and is a mute.

The people buying these cars are most likely in the Hedge Fund business, I saw a report on how these guys are making more money then any fund in history. We're talking a Mil just to get in. These kinds of people can't spend it fast enough and have to own the best.
My old pal Roy Price, may he RIP. I can still see his animated face telling me of the story how a bullet hole got in the fender of one of his cars before he purchased it. He was Gem and a Gentleman. Like Wendell Campbell, a Southern Gentleman. We miss his whim and wit.

PS I’m going out to my garages with a full clip if this is that car.
