    C1 Oil Pan

I'm assembling a correct engine to go into my 1962. I believe I've got the correct oil pan. Not 100% sure. But it's certainly close, and therefore, I'm determined to use it. It's one of those deals that I found someplace cheap 20+ years ago and have been tripping over ever since. It's going on the car. I'm now trying to make it look pretty. I've stripped the paint off down to shiney metal. But there's lots of moderately sized pits in the areas that were formerly rusty. How do I treat that? Can they be filled? With what?

Is Bondo suitable for little pits in metal that's going to get hot? I know I'm dating myself by using the term, "Bondo." What do people use in this situation?

Is there a filler/primer that I can spray on that'll fill the pits?

"Bondo" has been used successfully before, as long as noe of the pits "leak"

      Hi Chris,

I would use a two part epoxy body filler. It will withstand the heat cycles better than just a single stage putty. I'm using a product called 'Blue Diamond' that uses a hardener. Be aware though, you have a very short amount of working time, four or five minutes so plan accordingly.

      Best Regards,

      Mark

        Hi Chris:
Is this why you haven't called me to assist in the re-install???

Thank you gentlemen. Good ideas. I appreciate the help.

Jim, I'm still screwing around with the engine on the stand. I'm being very careful (probably overly so) because I don't want to have to take the engine out again to fix something I forgot. Planning much work this weekend.
