Has anyone ever tried to remove the sending unit through the filler neck opening on an 82? My service manual says to drop the tank, but it looks like there may be enough room to do it from the top.

Re: 1982 fuel tank sending unit
Doug,
You're absolutely correct - after removing the lid hinge, rubber filler grommet (release the drain line ties to the frame), the fuel & return line connections, and the guage wires, the sending unit can be unscrewed and caefully manipulated out of the tank. Not sure if there is a problem, but while it is out, you may want to 'shorten' the float arm by increasing the bend angles so it doesn't bind on the bladder and replace the short piece of rubber fuel line just above the pump so it is compatible with modern fuel.- Top

Re: 1982 fuel tank sending unit
My gauge reads 1/4 all the time. The dash unit seems to work fine during the tests I have done. Maybe I do have a problem with the float binding. Thanks for the information!- Top
