What appears to be my original interior mirror disagrees with the JG. On the chrome back of my interior mirror are 2 rivets, at 3 and 9 o'clock positions surrounding the ball stud. Below ball stud is the word GUIDE. I cannot see a date in the very tired mirror. My car is an early Jan. 65 built car. Please look at your (original) mirrors and post a response. Thanks DG

Re: C2 owners: Please check your interior mirror.
Dick - I double checked and I didn't see any information in the 65 TIM&JG describing the mirror you have on your car, but in checking the 65 Corvette AIM, UPC 1 ASM, SHEET D5, the call out for the mirror, ITEM 9, shows two mirror assemblies, p/n 910453 MIRROR ASM and 3849571, OPT
(optional MIRROR ASM). The Chevrolet Parts & Accessories Catalog, P&A 30, Oct
1966 in Group # 10.185 lists Part # 910453 as MIRROR ASSEMBLY, inside (chrome)
(head) for
58 BEL AIR, IMPALA, NOMAD
59-66 IMPALA, NOMAD, CAPRICE
63-66 CORVETTE
From my experience, I believe this is mirror described in the 65 TIM&JG and the
one I have on my 66 Chevelle and 1966 Corvette with the dated mirror glass.
A friend in Albuquerque had the mirror you describe on a couple of early 66
Corvettes with the 2 rivets and we were convinced they were the original mirror but we're still
working that issue for 66.
I've seen similar mirrors but with a silver painted back for Corvairs.
Bottomline is I expect the mirror you have is the opt (Optional) mirror assembly, p/n 3849571. I don't know who rebuilds them but someone must.
Hope the info helps and hopefully some other 65 and 66 owners of cars with the original (optional) standard mirror (not non-glare day/night mirrors) will step up. Interesting.

Check out Noland Adams' Book...
on the subject of interior mirrors. In his 1963 section, he gives an nice chat, repleat with drawings, regarding the running changes and optional construction details of the two interior mirror suppliers of the day (3770185 and 3770186). See page 70 of Noland's Volume 2 book. One version of the mirror sure sounds like what you're describing on your '65. If so, there are probably some '63 owners who'd KILL to have it!- Top
