    Fuelie Distributor

I have a question on my 63 distributor.
During the timing of my engine, I disconnected the Tach cable at the distributor. There was oil coming out of the fitting. Should there be oil ? Or is there a seal ? (If yes, its leaking.)
I am not sure, if it's just a small leak or a "running" leak, I will disconnect the cable again tomorrow to see with the engine running.. I just don't want to have oil under pressure go into my newly restored dash cluster thru the cable...
Were can I see an exploded view of this type of distributor ?
I hate to have to remove the disrtibuor again, after getting the engine to run...

There is a seal, and should not leak. There are two seals, on in the front of the shaft where the drive to the fuel pump attaches, and the other at the rear, pressed into the housing in the rear where the tach cable hooks up. you will need to disassemble the distributor to fix it, but only as far as removing the three screws on the front cover where the drive to the fuel pump attaches. That allows you to remove the cover and the entire shaft the drives the pump and tach will pull out. You might as well replace both seals at the same time, hoping that the shaft does not have a groove worn in it. The seals are a commonly available part at any seal distributor, or email me if you can't find one. You will have to adapt a cheap screwdriver by bending the tip to catch the inside of the seal retainer to drive the old seal out, drive a new seal in place and you are good to go.

Thanks, Bill. I was afraid of that...
Here I thought, I was done taking things apart on this car.
      I will tackle it tomorrow...
